Video Interviews

The Central Aroostook Historical Society has conducted over two dozen video interviews, many with some of our older citizens in Blaine, Mars Hill, E Plantation and Westfield to capture memories and first hand experiences from years gone by.  Many will serve as input for stories to be included in our History Book to be published hopefully in 2017.

Some of those in our collection are as follows:

Ketchum Christmas Tree Operation: This interview which lasted over one hour included Brian, Diane, and Brianne Ketchum covering the family activities related to growing and selling Christmas trees in this region for many years.   It also covers the entire process of planting seedlings up through harvest in 8 to 10 years then marketing and delivery.

Jaunita Rideout interview at age 99 in December, 2014: Donnie Beals, nephew of Jaunita, and Steve conducted an interview of the current oldest person in town (as of 12-10-2016) . It is always helpful in an interview to have a relative or close friend to add interesting topics and details. We covered family makeup as well as the grocery business which was a key retail establishment.

Mars Hill Country Club: Andrew McQuade sat for an interview about the history of the Mars Hill Country Club just before the golf season opened in 2015. The extensive interview plus photos and scans of old photographs and newspaper articles covered the construction of the facility led by Alton McQuade through a fire at the clubhouse then expansion to 18 holes. This video and material will serve as the basis of one of the stories in the Central Aroostook Historical Society history book currently under development.
